Grace & Truth for You & Me

When I was searching for a name for the blog, I knew I wanted the word TRUTH to be included. We live in a day and age where truth has become a relative term — #speakyourtruth ring a bell? — and the chaos and depression and anxiety and brokenness in the culture around us is proof that “you do you” isn’t working. We may be finite beings, but we need infinite, absolute truth to anchor us.

Jesus said,

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

John 14:6a

Yet how often are we deceived by the trends and newest theories about what brings true happiness and fulfillment? As Christ-followers, we KNOW that Jesus is the only way to access eternity with God, forgiveness from sin, satisfaction, purpose, and deep love. I want that to be the core mission of this blog. I want to point others to the Truth (Jesus), not to my opinions or the latest jazz. It’s unpopular, but it’s real and life-changing.

Not only do we find truth in Him, but grace.

"Grace is the free and sovereign work of God to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves, even though we don't deserve it...Grace does not just pardon our failures; it empowers our successes."
--John Piper, Forward, Habits of Grace by David Mathis, pgs. 12&13

The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross gave us access to this amazing forgiveness and empowerment to be freed from our slavery to sin once we repent and surrender our lives to God in faith (Romans 6:20-23). But we’re also dependent on God’s grace daily as we deal with temptation, mistakes, conflicts, struggles, etc. Although we aren’t perfect and will fail, God sees us pure because of Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21). Thankfully we can rely on His daily grace to help us walk in the Spirit because His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth…For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

John 1:14, 16-17

What a beautiful pairing! The truth of the Gospel to strengthen us, and the grace of God to empower us…all made possible through Jesus. All because God loves us and went to incomprehensible lengths to justify us by Christ!!

He has a plan for us as women. His design for womanhood is beautiful. It’s countercultural, for sure, but it is greater than anything we can or could try to devise on our own.

Girls, let’s hold on tightly to God’s awesome, never-ending grace that justifies and forgives, and live by the truth that will always stand firm and never fail us.
